Question about PCD

Postby zephyral » Sat Jan 19, 2013 5:15 pm

If my high school physics is right, the further away from the center of rotation the smaller the torque demand on the wheel bolts of a car as each bolt would have a better leverage being further from the center. then the question is are there any advantages in using a small PCD as per our bellas? or is it merely traditions?

another question, why bolt instead of nut?

I know studs and nut are more convenient to change wheel, and although they are easier to strip (due to pushing wheel in and out along its lenght) they are also easier to change out the stud should it be stripped as opposed to threading the hub.

bolt on the other hand are more of a pain to change wheel and even harder to fix if your fix the thread. what other advantages does it offer then?

Yeah, was thinking the same too... the hub threads are stripped :(

Was wondering if we can convert to stud and nut.

during my goggling, i even came across reasons such as "bolts dun roll as much as nuts when changing wheel on an incline" :duh:
