Saab Cars in Malaysia

Postby littlebeetle » Tue Aug 24, 2010 10:48 pm

Hi All,

Would like to seek for your opinion on this marque.

How's SAAB doing in Malaysia? I do see some 93 and 95 on the road but they are really rare.

Maintenance of the car ?

I am considering to check out the Saab 93 2004 model.
It's a 2.0 Turbo CBU from Sweden. 5 speed auto GB.

Comments and advice are welcome.

Theres no more agency here, Auto Eurokars gave it up a few years back.
I had a '83 900 abt 15 yrs back very nice car, solid feel.
Almost bought a 900S '96 model owned by Hong Leong Group in 2002 but got outbid by a sor hai at the last minute
I have a fren who bought a 9-3 at the beginning of the year and he loves it ...
But the current cars are all Opel/Vauxhall Vectra platform cars as they were owned by GM....
so the susp. feel not like the yesteryears Saab's....

Spyker the supercar manufacturer from Holland has bought it over since beginning of the year,
hope they will infuse something fresh into them.

There's a SAAB club in Malaysia.

http://saab.freeforums.org/

You might be able to get better feedbacks from there.

SAAB = Swedish Automobiles Always Breakdown

Had one some years back, a GM900 2.0T Coupe. It ain't worth it to get one. Largely a GM parts bin car. It's just an Opel Calibra that's been reskinned to look like a Saab. Later versions didn't even use a Saab engine but had Opel or Holden engines.

Parts wise, even in UK they're not cheap to maintain even when compared against an Alfa Romeo.

I think only the V-sixers use GM engines, the turbo 4's are still SAAB units.

There hasn't been any Saab engined Saabs since 2002 when the current 9-3 was launched. It's been GM ECOTEC engines since, just tuned slightly differently from the Opels. There isn't anything Saab left in terms of engineering.

The only legacy we see today that's largely a Saab engineering project is the chassis of the Alfa Romeo 159.
