Guys,

The big problem with chancing upon these cars that need 'rescuing' is that once in a while you really do stumble on a gem of a car, rare and desirable, that really suits your needs. So be careful guys, because I found this recently....

It's a Mercedes-Benz 200T Estate (W123). Rare. 2-litre 'black' petrol engine mated to a 5-sp manual gearbox. Drove the car around, it's in amazing condition, needs a bit of TLC (paint + steam clean interior), but not much to make it mint. 100% original, with a manual sunroof (no leaks), original roof rails and original colour coded Merc wheel covers (not shown in pic, removed to avoid theft)

It's exactly what I need in terms of a reliable, hardy family car for town and out-station use, with massive cargo space. It was a no brainer, I bought it on the spot :)

Well done Chris! Hope you'll bring it to Darren's bat cave for some treatment.

I love old Mercs, especially the W123s, W126s and 190Es.

My family still uses a W126 300 (3.0L) S-Class for day to day errands around town. Super comfortable and built like a tank.

Chris, that W123 Estate is damn rare! Nvr seen any of those around before! Congrats on the find and purchase! It looks very well-maintained and great from the pics.

Btw, since you got the W123 now...I was wondering if you know any reliable mechs or specialists for it. I am looking for one to service the carburettor on a W123. It is leaking and we were once quoted RM3k to replace and fix it from a Merc specialist.

Hope you or anyone else here can recommend a reliable mech who can work well with the W123.

Thanks!

Hey Loki, thanks for the contact. I shall give Ah Boon a call to enquire soon!

The W123 belongs to my gf's father. The car had been neglected for awhile and we wanted to send it for a fresh coat of paint. However, the carburettor is leaking and we need to fix that before we paint the car. Hope to see this car back on the roads again soon and it is a great ride. Smooth engine and very comfortable!

This is the car that we wanna restore:

NICE!!! Wow, actually it looks to be in very good condition already so I hope u get the carbs sorted out soon! Those are the wheel covers I was talking about in my post, the ones on my Estate are exactly like that, except for the centre colour which matches the body. Nice one Nick!

Yeah! The condition of this ride is actually very good except for the paintwork, leaking carb and the broken lever to open the bonnet (can see at the front grille that the lever is missing). Becareful with yours as the plastic lever snaps easily when it is old and brittle! Now, I must find a replacement for that as well!

The main thing for me is to get the carb sorted out and the car running. So, we can drive it to the paintshop! Had been searching and found one recommended shop at the Benz forum. However, after calling...i got put off by the price they quoted to fix the carb! :(

Well, I shall look at getting this baby on the road again. Was supposed to do it months ago, but been so busy and the bella ate into quite a lot of my time and resources. :P

NT 8285, the 123 carb is a very simple affair, sidedraught Solex or Zenith, or Stromberg,
almost same as a Volvo 240.
Very reliable carb and all parts available ro rebuild. it doesnt cost 3k to repair you hv been had.

Chris, wagons all came with rear hydraulic susp. which can be pretty expensive to repair when they fail.
I know of a 'Cossie' 2.5-16 engine (auto) going for 4.5k with hydraulic pump for the rear susp. if you are interested.

- what SS said about the W123's carb being very simple is right.

- perhaps make this your maiden attempt at bringing a car back to life (nothing comes close to gettin an engine running again). Start by taking off the air-cleaner and its piping. That will expose the carb.Take lots of pics (to help you identify bits later) and work methodically.

- you'll need come access to compressed air (or a can of WD40 with the pipe works too when desperate ... ) and maybe some gaskets for the carb. Buy a re-build kit for the carb.

Thanks a lot man, appreciate that

I may actually swing by over the weekend. Well the 200T is safely home having passed Puspakom yesterday, all that's left now is road tax + insurance. I put the ori wheel covers back on the car last night, wow, what a difference it makes!!

Sorry about the angle, that's the best I could do given the space I have, hence the need for a new house! Haha :P

Thanks Loki for informing Ah Leong. Not been able to contact him yet as I was busy these two days. My car (not the 156 thankfully) got involved in an accident. Had to settle everything and was not able to contact Ah Leong or Ah Boon yet.

SScabrio and Pistole, thank you for the info on the W123's carb. Appreciate it. Glad to know that it is a simple affair and I definitely did think that it was ridiculous to have to pay RM3k to fix it. Hope to sort it out soon!

Chris, ur W123T looks really nice! All the best!

Oooh.....very rare 8-Series BMW. Was it a 840i or 850i? I saw one in Damansara Uptown behind Brother Peter some time back, it was in definite 'please for the love of GOD rescue me' condition, interior was a parts bin of stuff that had come off the car. The next time I went back, it was gone, I hope someone did indeed rescue her...

There's only a few number of them 850i here. A school mate of mine, his bro has one. Nice looking car actually but parts could be a pain in the arse to source and costly.

Just remembered - theres a gold W123 sedan that needs rescuing in the Ah-Boon's / Ah-Leong's workshop. In fact, looks very much like Chris's wagon - complete with the colour coded gold hubcaps. This is an older picture but you can see the W123 in the background:

Chris and nt will be able to use that unit as a source for parts perhaps? Or someone will rescue it?

Was at the workshop the whole day today, installing a Series III bumper on my R33 GT-R.

Oh and that yellow mudah car, it looks like a Honda S600 Coupe.

Chris,

Should consider moving to Bukit Beruntung, still reasonable and big land.

And no worries. Happy to help guys :).

Those ori wheel covers make such a big difference Chris and its what really makes that particular Merc series, unique. Love it.

Thanks for asking. The car needs about a month to repair and I am claiming the insurance. Most importantly was that everyone in the car is fine and not injured.

My relative was driving the car when another vehicle swerved into our lane without signalling. We tried to avoid it and swerved, but lost traction in the rain and whacked the wall. Very sad!

Anyway, I will give Ah Leong or Ah Boon a call this week to enquire abt the W123. Thanks mate! :)
