Installation of Convertible Top - Can be done off the car?

Postby 164TSpark » Fri Feb 18, 2011 12:30 pm

Hi there.

I took the convertible top of the car together with its old (torn) vinyl before the restoration started last August.

My ques is, can i just send the convertible top mechanism (without the car) to the shop and ask them to change the torn vinyl with a new one and then I install back on the car myself? Is this advisable? Or it HAS to be done ON the car?

Appreciate your comments/advice on this.

Thanks.

Syed

Hi Syed,

Do you need to replace the whole hood or is it just a section of the vinyl?

If it's to replace the whole hood, I would advise taking the car there. This is to ensure that the hood fits properly over the frame of the windscreen, ie. no leaks. If it's just to replace a section of the vinyl, then I suppose you could just take the hood rather than the whole car.

Cheers,
mike
