Transformation...The Italian Job (1969 version)

Classic Alfa Romeos pre"AlFiat" days...

This thread is back alive and kicking!!
Sorry but terribly busy and also having issues with the painter. They have issues installing those NOS parts on the 2 earlier 105s and broke a few of those and taking old parts to putty the car therefore after painting having issues installing the new ones. Big arguments with the owners...Terrible. Lucky that they've done nothing to my car yet so towed it back to the body guy and got him to the painting work. Ol-skool style!!
Stay tuned for the updates....

Funny thing is that these guys worked the other way...my underside has not been done and only will start after removal and dismantling the suspension and raised it on stilts. Then the Wurth under seal / stone guard goes on the undercarriage and touch up the wheel arches. No more that peeling tar/bitumen stuff or sheets anymore...this are good stuff!

Do you guys know where should these areas be treated?
Should be like this....and painted as the body colour.

Will be off to Bangkok next week to check out progress and also on the mechanical bits. Need to get parts in soon...Bonus belum sampai pon habis dah...

Thank you for the kind comments! Went to BKK and haven't really got time to upload the photos. Busy with the shopping list and finally most of them have arrived!!!
IMG_3322.jpg
3 packs of gold!

IMG_3323.JPG
Monster pack!

The bill was shocking, mostly small items like grommets and seals, postage wasn't too bad if you taking the consideration that it arrives 4 days over the weekend after the credit card clearance. What was unexpected was the tax! Totally way beyond what was anticipated.

Well, to please myself, I found a d*mn f^ck#ing 'hard-to find' NOS part of the whole car which is the rear lamp cluster. Paid a bomb for these NOS babies. Only special to 1750 Mk1. Even bought spare lenses in case....Enjoy the pics.
IMG_3325.JPG

IMG_3327.jpg

IMG_3326.jpg
Metal base..not plastic like Mk2 lights or GTV2000

And these babies came too! Muahahaha both outer and inner original NOS Carellos! Cursive script of early GTs and Giulia.

Outer Headlamps

IMG_3316.jpg
Inner Headlamps

And these number plate lights (same as stepfronts and GTA and Ferarris too)
Originali Carello..
IMG_3107.JPG
Very shiny!

Still expecting one more packaging which could be next week and will be off to BKK again during CNY to drool =P~ on these!
Just can't stomach the crazy TH custom taxes [-O<

Hopefully...and should be ready in time for the GT 50th anniversary event! And AROC Phuket trip. Maybe.. just maybe not to the standard of 'another' GT 105 that is coming in soon from UK. That... is truly a very rare specimen.

Probably you guys are curious what's in that Classic Alfa packages. My great friend will spend some time to separate and label each parts and take photos of them for record. Will keep everyone updated. I paid a tidy sum for the the car itself when I bought it and just the CA parts alone with shipping and taxes cost more than half of the car. #-o Never have thought the restoration will bust my budget way off. So if you guys plan to do ground up restore, do it now when the pounds are weak. These parts prices will just go sky rocket high, from my observation in the last 2 years.

Thanks Eric....not an A but a C.
GTC...will be only one in Malaysia and probably only one in Asia. Total manufactured = 1000 units in both RHD and LHD form.
Fully restored in UK. I won't post any photos unless I get some form of consent from the owner. This will probably make its debut at this year's 50th 105GT Anniversary, and hopefully mine as well...

There's a plan in the pipeline to revive the 'A'. The real 'A'! The one that mostly of us has seen on the B&W white photo on the local racing scene from the 60s-70s. And a replica AM with probability of running a TS engine.

Now...something I haven't shown here before...interior upholstery...I've picked a tan colour interior instead of the mundane black. There were 3 colour options from the original catalogue, black, tan and red. Couldn't find the red as it'll go very well with the white car. So I opted for tan colour which gives a very classy look. A bit of those old ferraris....since I can't afford one now.

IMG_4034.jpg
20120305 - Original basket weave vinyl for seat centre

IMG_4035.jpg
20120305 - Original texture vinyl for the side of the seats and also the 4 door cards and sides. Note the special grain.

IMG_4036.jpg
20120305 - And the black vinyl which goes to the rest of the car. It's not really black, more bluish grey. Can't find a alternative replacement anywhere else. This is exact texture based on my comparison on a NOS dashboard.

IMG_4037.jpg
20120305 - Original headlining with 'snake-bite' pattern. Pardon the photo quality.

IMG_4586.JPG
20120401 - Original headlining from my car

IMG_4583.JPG
20120401 - Passenger front seat re-foam. These material is more firm compared to the lesser sponge counterpart. Takes an artist out from the upholsterer to 'carve' the shape based on the original form

IMG_4588.JPG
20120401 - Locally sourced carpet for the floor pan. Grey if you asked. All step fronts and 1750 Mk 1 uses grey and not black.

Back to body guy...he has started putting on parts to my naked car! Miracle!

IMG_5596.JPG
20120506 - Got the lips! Old man went to put the old signal lens!

IMG_5599.JPG
20120506 - Installed glass windows, rubber seals, chrome edgings...relief!

IMG_5600.JPG
20120506 - Rear bumper is in together with re-chromed plate lights which is the same as step fronts

IMG_5602.JPG
20120506 - Nice plate base with original rubber edging

IMG_5601.JPG
20120506 - New reverse light fits perfectly

IMG_5606.JPG
20120506 - Top view with new number plate lights and base plate.

IMG_5611.JPG
20120506 - Fuel flap, spring, rubber buffers all in place. Forgot to send the fuel cap for polishing

IMG_5603.JPG
20120506 - Fuel tank with rubber sealing strip and new fuel boot is in too

IMG_5613.JPG
20120506 - Headlining, and inner chrome edge all installed! Pull handle location marked for installation later

IMG_5615.JPG
20120506 - The rear quarter light glass is quite a complex design with the mechanism and buffers. Installing it take a while

20120506 - Aluminium bracket to hold the gasket replaces the original steel ones. Mine rusted.

IMG_5629.JPG
20120506 - Door pull handle. Note the rubber gasket is only appeared on German cars. Not original fitment but advisable to have it as the paint around the surround will crack over time

IMG_5622.JPG
20120506 - Underside sealed with Wurth and painted

IMG_5627.JPG
20120506 - Rear underside with refurbished fuel tank

IMG_5475.jpg
20120506 - Wheels just painted in BMW Polaris Silver. Nearest colour to the original wheel

IMG_5473.jpg
20120506 - Close-up. Note the 3 notches for the wheel cap. Can't find the steel wheel so welded the notch on it. Pretty good job I would say

IMG_5639.jpg
20120506 - Can't wait to see how it looks like with the original wheel hub cover on

IMG_5474.jpg
20120506 - Made by Fergat

IMG_5485.JPG
20120506 - New replacement for the exhaust heat protector panel

IMG_5486.JPG
20120506 - For exhaust rear section

Back to upholsterer guy...
20130509 - These made me weep! No words could describe the workmanship and almost dead match to the original. I've only provided reference from photos of original seats that was unrestored and also close-up from books and brochures.

See the original seats from some references I have. Close enough?

20130518 - Number plate gotto go. Making new one here, replicating the older Italian big fonts. Plate surround difficult to find as this has a round edges instead of a square one. Thanks to Soo!

20130518 - Cloisonne Alfa badge. Note that cars after 1973 do not have 'Milano' on it.

20130518_145853.jpg
20130518 - Still got the windscreen and door gasket to be installed. Had to order another round from CA due to the earlier ones that I've bought is slightly smaller.

Going back to visit this coming weekend and the suspension bits should be installed by the mechanic. All parts are powder-coated black and bolts and nuts are zinc-plated. All the seats should be done as well. Will keep everyone posted.

Thanks bravosx!

aron56 wrote:Awesome...where did you manage to find the original headlining??

Sorry, mine's original snake-bite pattern headlining. Not NOS. 3am posting error!
hahaha but yes, NOS is still available. Spoke to Low and that bugger wanted AUD instead of RM (basically with the same figure, just the currency change) There are 3 more available. Met him while he was packing those stuff to Aussieland late last year. If you know Soo, the Carabinieri Giulia at 100 years, his headlining is NOS from Low.

Even the original 'basket-weave' pattern vinyl I found in Ipoh! in tan and green colour. At Tim Cheong upholsterer, end of shop parallel to Tan Motor. Was from his father's time some 40 years ago and kept it. Can't stand his attitude and basically I don't like my balls grabbed. So I bought from CA.

IMG_9360.jpg
Green vinyl. Hot stamped made by his dad. Now probably in his 80s

IMG_9363.jpg
40 year old vinyl...original tan colour basket-weave

IMG_9364.jpg
Only 1 roll. Not too sure if it's even enough for 1 car.

This material is also appeared on Mk2 1750 GTV. Go bug him if anyone of you fancies. Tell me if you managed to!

Thanks aunheng. Everything is done in Bangkok. Still stuck here...He does the labour. All materials are provided to him except floorpan and boot carpet.
