Bonnet Struts

Postby puchongbala » Thu Apr 29, 2010 5:00 pm

Was looking fer a pair of bonnet struts as mine are a bit knackered.

Called Torino - no stock but guy was kind enough to give me number of this dude.

Vincent: 012-2099830

He is charging RM180 per piece.

Am also told he has been featured here on IA before but couldn't find the posting, so thought me re-post it.

I assume this is for the later style gas struts? If it is, RM180 per piece is cheap. Over here in the UK they are £50 per piece.

Is this guy selling the original Fiat ones?
OE fiat ones are made by Stabilus (Model: Hydro-Lift 9895KX)

Hi do you mean strut bars?

I've done mine at Ultra Racing in Bukit Permai.
Not really remember the price since I installed all 5 bars and it cost me around Rm1200.

I think the price is reasonable, and its lifetime warranty. Service are good tho cause Bukit Permai is the HQ. Hope it helps.

Those bar...esp on the rear boot shelf, i dread to think if accident happen and someone hit you from behind and you have rear passengers

I have seen some satria installed on the rear boot shelf on the same height as rear passenger head. It might look cool but if shit happens, it can get pretty ugly.

Aiyak ya ka? Sorry boss haha. Misunderstood.

invisibleghost: Got some difference la, its stiffer. But if they fabricate this thing for the fenders I think should feel more effect on handling.

gtfan: You gave me the shivers man, din think bout that at all hehe. Its a set so I just bought the whole thing. Besides, I decide on removing the rear seats, planning on installing a cage, still in discussion with UR.

those inner bar looks cool but i had to agree with david that the upper boot rear bar seems abit scary if someone hit u from behind.

The parcel shelf bar is mounted on the seatbelt points. If an impact occured to the extent that it intruded that area (gone pass the crush zones) you'd be dead anyway.

strut bars wear-off (very quick) when the front bonnet is opened for a long period, usually during repairs or resprays.

Insist that the mechanics use a broom stick, or two broom sticks

I keep them in the car, just in case the work shop don't have any

This shall prolong the life span

Thanks man.
Never regret even once on buying her. People been pushing me to sell the car and get others.
But till now still in hand. After 214 days, car is still in workshop for major "rejuvenation" process ;p
Should extend the car's life span with a fresh feeling. Ingat mau simpan sampai mati la ni kereta haha.

there is one shop in kg subang that fabricate the gas strut for any car boot/bonnet....they have fabricated and installed one for my motorcycle honda pacific coast ...replaced the original showa...already sagging after 20 years....imagine how much the showa might cost.......mine cost only rm50......

you can bring your car there and they will calibrate the force required according to your boot weight, spring rate etc......cheap solution.....

kgpa - see start of this thread fer details.

Still usable but mech already pointed out that they were leaking during last service & to be careful when lifting hood.

(*sigh*) . . . . Just over 3 months me thinks me bought. Too bad. Not gonna kick up a fuss over this but just wanna let ye guys know that these oem bonnet struts/dampeners don't last too long. RM360 per pair.

So who's up fer a group buy from this Kg Subang shop? We just need one guy to go get car calibrated & order a whole lot fer rest of us who can install this on our own? Anybody?

friend friend no problem.....actually kampung subang have other "technology" as well...when i sent the bike there, mechanic open up the radiator for service...he said if the clogging really bad, have to fabricate new radiator.......and he state that fabricating a new radiator cost around rm600.....which is cheap compared with ordering a new one from japan........still a lot of things to discover......

Hi Puchong Bala,

If you're referring to the bonnet damper-strut holders (to hold your bonnet up), you can call Chong from EMech, he's got a good supplier who can provide, no need to customise anything (I guess he's worked with Chong long enough to know the req'd specs for coop). Not original Fiat etc, but it works fine on my car. V strong and will maintain "tegang-ness". ;-)

Chong also installed it for me. Took about 10 mins tops.

Vincent (vendor) was kind enough to replace the leaking pair of bonnet struts FOC.

So my problemo kau tim fer the time being.

Anyone else interested can give Vincent a call. Apparently he supplies most italian car specialists with parts.

Also has selenia at decent prices if anyone is interested in stocking up.

Trading name - Yit Seng Auto.

Based in Subang Jaya.

But will deliver to yer doorstep.

Me has a feeling that this dude supplies to most mechs (eg emech / worldtech). Just a hunch.

In fact, got his number from Torino which would indicate they were using his struts as well when they ran out of original stock.

So there.

Actually, my bonnet strut went dead last week and a call to Glory and they have the OE fiat ones by Stabilus (Model: Hydro-Lift 9895KX). But at a price unimaginable...RM280 per pc...!! But i think i will still go for the original as the quality of the OEM is a 'lil unpredicatable & since I'm mostly in Ipoh nowadays...PuchongBala, how long after you've bought urs when it starts to leak?

I bought mine from Glory also, Stabilus brand. It has given me good service for 2 years when 1 piece gave way. I open and close the bonnet a lot and keep it up for long time too. Price was around RM150/pc. The rear ones(trunk) I forgot the price but it was stiff and meant for trunk with spoilers.

What I advice is since Coupe Bonnet is heavier then Alfa 155, keep 2 pieces of golf umbrellas in the car ... double duty.. use during rain, as what umbrellas are meant for, and to keep the bonnet up.

As some of this info is 2 years ago and meant for Fiat Couple... wonder if anybody know where I can find bonnet strut and boot strut for Alfa 156?

My bonnet strut went soft.
The boot strut ends that hold the ball mount broken. Heard can replace metal ones and will last forever.. Anywhere?
