Hmmm, got mine some time back from there. Dunno if it was that expensive. Prolly paid that price anyway as I was desperate to restore my car when I first bought it.

The stabilus are about RM400 a pair from the UK..add freight, tax, margin, then its about 600 lor..but you're right, its stupidly expensive for what they are. Bought a pair for the E60 the other day (Stabilus as well) and they are only Rm80 each..albeit shorter size.

Why oh why do our cars have to be so expensive to maintain...Ha ha. I used to keep the coupe in the driveway and only take it out once in a while. I think that is more costly than driving it frequently.

Don't say that. Our cars are just under appreciated. People keep telling me to sell my coupe, but I just love it to death despite how it drains money from my pockets. It is a thing of beauty and joy.

Bro, a pair or each? I can probably drop by there to find out though.

I also looks for strut for the boot... cause damn car wash bugger must lean on it to dry car until the head koyak.

Actually, this ring a bell. I'm sure there are other strut models with lengths out there which can fit our bonnets and boots... at cheaper prices... Must find!

And if you find out which compatible cars for bonnet and boots... post here!

Its not only the lengths, you also need to look out for the rated pressure..and i have no idea how to determine that.

I tried using non stabilus ones before..same length, same fitting. But not strong enough to hold the coupe bonnet! I've also seen others that hold the bonnet but the pressure is so high that you need to throw yourself on it to close it!

Stevo,
I replaced my boot struts a couple of months back with an after market unit. Less than RM200/pair. Doesn't fit well so hv to fix upside down. I guess I can live with that.

It holds it up but not all the way to the top. Last 6" needs the original stopper to hold it.
But I'm looking for another slightly stronger one. I'll update when I find it.

I saw another coupe using OEM gas springs rated 240N . Anyone can confirm? Take a look at the words printed on the has spring, you should see 180N, 240N or some other number

Hi Jamslau, I'm also interested in changing my bonnet struts to gas type. do let us know if you are able to find a 240N gas spring bonnet strut. Btw, how's the gen 2 bonnet strut holding up? Any Proton spare part shops around Subang/PJ area?

I'm using original one on the right (still has 50% pressure I think), with the built in stopper & Gen2 one on the left. I'm happy with this set up, it lifts the bonnet & is neutral weight for 80% of the travel, I push up last 20% & use the ori stopper to lock it in position.

I bought a pair from Vincent about 4 months ago. Stronger rebound than originals, but then these are not originals but some cheap brand.
But they do the biz, so who cares at these prices.

I heard that anyone whom able to service 'shock' will able to service bonnet strut, and i also heard that it just need to change 'O'-ring (seal) and refill the gas&oil, and lastly it should be cheap. ask around ya, otherwise drop by NT when u're pass-by.
