Yup, the damn bolts broke last 2 weeks while I'm driving first there's a 'dunk' sound from the engine compartment while I'm accelerating hard in 1st to 2nd gear after a while then suddenly there's a huge knocking sound and vibrations in the engine compartment, I had to stop and had to call tow truck since the gearbox side already dropped a bit and the drive shaft coupling touching the LHS lower arm making a scary knocking sound. My mech to change the whole bolts to only one long bolts that will tight the PGS mounting from top to the bottom with a nut to lock it. The bolts we got it from Jalan Ipoh bolts factory, dark color (not sure what kind of steel) it rated 8.8 so should be good to withstand the pressure. I'm not adding any washer since only using 1 single long bolt. So far so good considering I love low gear accelerations. Better while you add the washer change to higher rate bolts as well. So guys who ever has fitted the damn thing please ease on the acceleration especially on low gears until you swapped the bolts and add washer.

Ohhhh...shit.
I'm not going to take the risk with just adding a washer. Mind as well, change to a stronger bolt.

RASS,
Could you advice us where to get the bolt changed in Jln Ipoh?
Thanks in advance.

Its in the middle of the famous U-turn near the petrol pump. Its along the row of shop, outside it there's a big replica of bolt..u can't miss it. But you need to get the correct length of the bolt and it must be full threaded so that it can be screwed to tight both mountings from top to bottom, the length is about 6 inches, you must get the screw locking nut as well, the best part it cost only RM4 becoz we buy direct from the factory..just imagine if we bought it from parts shop for sure it will cost ten times more especially when they know what car is it for... But basically you still can opt to use two higher rate bolts with washer as advised by Vibra Tech considering they are the expert.

Ayo....rass, you better put this in the UK forum too. It seems now not only in track use, but under normal circumstances, it also can break. Wtf :cuss-ing:

Look like i am going to pussy drive my coupe for the next few days till i get this resorted. Luckily tomorrow centenial drive start from jln ipoh. Will drop by the nut shop to get the bolt and nut.

Like what dave had says, for those who already fitted the mount in the car, better replace the bolt too as i am sure the fatigue on the bolt is already there.

I'll put this in the FCCUK tonite, just for the benefit of the coop owners over there.

What a crap...I felt like lab animal testing ...lucky for me...like what pistole say if you're doing 200kmh then this PSG pea-nut came off I can't imagine... I still keep my old mountings as spare though. :|

Their mountings are good quality though its just the bolts need some improvement.

Spoke to Albert about brining the car over to have my bolts replaced. He mentioned that he already replaced them when he mounted them onto the car, the supplied bolts are noticably longer than what is required and he replaced them with a shorter set. Even mentioned that the longer ones can break under load due to vibration and fatigue. Now thats initiative, and great service! So, Godwilling.. should be able to climb uphil tomorrow night comfortably enough.

Good on them for taking the initiative to replace the bolt for us, not like I-phone now infamous Steve Job reply, 'hold it another way'.

I missed the jln ipoh nut shop as i was rushing to check it out after our centenial drive. Shop already close by the time i reach there. Will try to get the 105mm screws and 2 washers tomorrow morning before sending my slut to hospital. Hopefully the nut shop have have.

Me now messaging from Worldtech. ha....

Ok, got my Bolts from jln ipoh. Bought the same length bolt but with 12.9 strength together with 2 1mm washers. Bought 4 bolts (one for me, one for redd, one for UN, and one spare). Let me know if any of of you folks need my spare set, i will be glad to sell it to you. I got it for rm2.50 each. (so a teh tarik will do for me). First come first serve basis.

So you need to re-use the original washer as well.

Ok, just got back from worldtech. Looking from a mechanic point of view and my observation, i didn't put the additional 2mm washer and i use back the supplied 2mm washer with the new bolt.

My mechanic was worried that with additional 2mm washer, there will be less thread holding to the mount. It take only a few turn before it tighten. So we stick back to the 2mm washer and i did ask whether it was touching the other end but it's not.

The old bolt had no visible sign of breaking or fatigue yet though.

We were thinking, isn't it much better to just change it to one whole bolt like what rass did instead of 2 seperate bolt that was supplied by VT ?

Anyway, let's see how this uprated bolt stands up since it's definately feel much heavier than the VT supplied bolt. Btw, i did a comparison between UN supplied VT bolt and mine from VT (different batch), i realise the quality differs. Mine is marked with TVIK 8.8 while UN's bolt is marked with TA 8.8. Mine did look a bit cheap though.

Dear all,

I've not fixed on the mounting yet. So I tried to unscrew the single long bolt from the mounting ..in order to go to Jln IPOH to buy a new bolt. BUT, I find it very difficult to unscrew the long bolt from the mounting...even with a wrench. Do you guys face the same problem? Should I just take the whole freaking mounting to JLN IPOH as sample? Thanks.

I received my mount, the screw was not mounted yet. By right, It shouldn't be so tight. Use a clamp to hold the mount while you remove the screw. It should come off easily. Can spray some wd40 to make thing easier. The length is 100mm minus the 5 mm head.

GTfan,

Silly me. I was mucking with the wrong mounting
You're right, the PGS came with unmounted screws (or bolts...i.e. 4 smaller bolts and one longer bolt). It is the longer unfitted bolt that is in question.
Is RASS suggesting using a single much longer bolt (6" or 152mm) to replace this 100mm bolt and the mounted bolt at the base of the PGS? Sorry, I'm a bit blur on this fccuking nuts & bolts thingy.

Either way also can...but i advised better follow VT's correction method since they are the expert. ;)

So far my mechanic's method is ok knowing how I trashed the coop on low gears

This vt also never reply my email..... :cuss-ing: Ok, let's wait another week. Anyway, already fitted a stronger high tensile bolt. Another spare bolt and my original mount is in my boot. Hahahaha if it ever break, can swap back :P

I believe it's more of the quality issue of the bolt that causes the breakage. If my high tensile bolt also break, i am switching to rass method which i think will hold much better than 2 bolts.

Alert once again guys.

I was on the verge of ordering. Vibratechnics sent me a quotation and it stated Lancia Delta mountings instead of Fiat Coupe mountings. Rather than email them to ask if they had it right (and wait for a reply), I called Rass to ask if it's the same thing.

His mountings went bye bye again! Apparently the rubber on the right engine mounts degraded and gave way. He's been busy with work and asked me to post on his behalf. Looks like I'm holding off the purchase for now.

Sorry for the late update..been busy with work.

David, its the driver side engine mounting. The rubber in the center of the mounting degraded prematurely this has cause the engine at driver side to drop a bit and the drive shaft coupling will hit the lower arm under even normal acceleration.

It happen when I downshift to accelerate. Since then every time i try to accelerate in any gear the drive shaft coupling will hit the right lower arm...I had to drive like pussy :cuss-ing: until I reach my mechanic workshop at Sunway Batu Caves from my home. He checked and confirm the driver side engine mounting is the culprit. I asked him to check the other two mounting but he says both still ok. So he replace the drive side engine mounting with the standard mounting and problem solved.

My guess is that under frequent low gear hard acceleration the driver side engine mounting will not last. I have yet to alert vibra about this and will do soon.

So please be careful guys. The best and safest way is to change back to the standard mounting. (only for driver side engine mounting)

Just got their reply:

Hello Mr Raslan,

The mounting system was extensively tested during the development phase. We have never had a report of a failure of this kind. The fundamental design is not an issue.

If you return the mount to us we will investigate the cause of failure and if it is found to be through any kind of defective manufacture we will replace it.

Kind regards

Phil

David, you case sound similar like mine...you'll be fine once you change back to original engine mount. Maybe we can send it back together the vibra.

Ok, after almost 2 months....hahaha yeah lately been pretty busy and no time to drive my yellow slut, i decide to send the car to worldtech to check the mountings and also to change engine oil.

Surprise surprise, it's not the mountings....From the visual inspection, there's not much free play on the mountings.

Mechanic pointed maybe my Bilstein B6 is shot as i understand is getting weaker especially the front driver side.

Anyway, i will be fitting my titan coilover next wednesday hopefully and will test and see whether the klunking noise is still there or not.

Till then, i am still not convinced it is my absorber putting out the klunking noise but will review again after my coilover fitting.
