what oil would you use on a Fiat Coupe 20VT+

Postby balmung69 » Mon Nov 26, 2012 8:14 am

Hi guys, previously im using selinia racing oil for my coop. but ever since its being bought over by petronas, i kinda lost interest in it and was wondering what other oil is better? would like to preserve my engine  .

im thinking of going for Motul but i met a oil specialist who is also a supplier for Torco oil and he told me that the range he recommend is Torco TR1 10w-50?

now im in a dilemma cause he says Torco oils are cheaper and better than motul and he supplies to Subaru owners and non have complain so far.mostly praises for the oil. BUT he is a supplier so might be promoting his product :?

To the sifu's out there, what oil would you recommend and what viscosity ?

this was discussed long time ago and nobody came up with a definite answer... some uses Motul, some on Ravenol and others on Shell or even Petronas... I'm on Chemlube 10W-40... for normal driving 10W-40 is good enuf... if u go for track then maybe u'd want to put in 10W-60... I have heard a lot about Torco too... but never tried it... maybe u can try and put your review here...

tried,

Agip F1 - really good, and cheap too, but too lazy to go buy it all the time
Idemitsu - crap
Rowe - good as well
Now on Bizol - also good, fuel consumption is also good.

As long you're engine is in good condition, seals are all ok, dun whack your car much, i don't see much difference in the better known brands la, they all seem the same to me, except idemitsu. [-X

Does your oil specialist happen to have the tech specs of the Torco? Would like to know the viscosity index (VI) among other things. Can't seem to find any info online.

the person i spoke to is the local distributer , so far he told me to use 5w50 for it. the only thing i dont understand is why is there so many different type of VI that is used? first is selinia racing (not sure what is the VI), then motul would be 0W-30? but some say to use the 300V ,then finally would be Torco 5w-50.

these's are some sites i found about the review on Torco Oil

http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums/ ... e-oil.html

BTW the person i spoke to is Mr Tang which appears in ZTH.com (1st Link)

You're mentioning the viscosity, not the viscosity index. Can't seem to find that info on any of the links, but thanks for sharing.

I personally wouldn't go for a 5w-50. I thought you mentioned 10w-50 earlier which got me interested. That said I'm pretty happy with what I use now which is Chemlube 10w-40.

Copy from Engine Oil Bible:
As oils heat up, they generally get thinner. Single grade oils get too thin when hot for most modern engines which is where multigrade oil comes in. The idea is simple - use science and physics to prevent the base oil from getting too thin when it gets hot. The number before the 'W' is the 'cold' viscosity rating of the oil, and the number after the 'W' is the 'hot' viscosity rating. So a 5W40 oil is one that behaves like a 5-rated single grade oil when cold, but doesn't thin any more than a 40-rated single grade oil when hot. The lower the 'winter' number (hence the 'W'), the easier the engine will turn over when starting in cold climates.

Thicker oil will take more work to heat it up to temp and cold oil isn't lubricating to its full potential. So running a thicker oil is totally pointless if your not driving the piss out of the car, and by that i mean on the track at full throttle for sustained periods.

Thanks for inquiry XD-Autoparts =]
