Warning! Fiat Coupe just can't U-turn!

Postby jamslau » Sun Jan 06, 2013 9:04 am

Every time I need to make a u-turn or turn into a tight corner, I must drive like an 18 wheeler truck [-O< & pray I can make it...
Must also check rear view mirror for other cars, because I may need to reverse a bit... Then full speed acceleration to escape the shame  LOL!
I always think to myself, I'm turning like a big boss... 8-) (other cars think I don't know how to drive)
I feel like pulling the handbrake & spinning my front wheels to make a tight u-turn...
Only if the other side is 3 lanes, then I'm not worried, sure can make it :|
When I want to do an 'L' parking in a basement car park, I can't poke straight in, must reverse :duh:

Other than that, I love my Fiat Coupe \:D/

The Coops turning point is really bad that you would think 10 times if you wanted to make a u-turn. But those who are used to it know that you would have to makan jalan a bit to manouvre a u-turn successfully.

Coupe owners like to excel. Why adhere to a 3-point turn when you can do a 5-turn?

It would be nice to install a 4 wheel Steering system like the Honda Prelude 4WS, then the coupe can turn on the spot

Wifey's no1 complaint.

Her parking is in a really old building with lanes & bays designed fer austin 7s & rileys, if ye gets me drift. And to exit, one has to make extra sharp turn into a back lane with other vehicles precariously (& illegally) parked on each side.

But she manages . . . :P

155 2.5V6/ 155 2.0TS 16V/ 146TI/ 145QV/ COUPE shares similar quick rack steering. hence turning lock to lock is only 2.1 turn only if not mistaken.

Wah! I feel much happier, now I know so many friends sharing the same problem. \:D/
I still wish I can transplant a Honda Prelude's 4 wheel steering system into the Fiat coupe..... [-O<

The 16v turbo coupe rack is the same as those u mentioned. The 20v turbo is slightly different and has worse turning.

A solution to this is fitting the 16vt rack into a 20vt.

I think the engine is so wide there isn't enough room for the front tires to turn more, unless they widen the track for the front wheels, or design a complicated tilting wheel mechanism for better turning....

supercars have engine at the rear..

for fiat coupe i think its due to the quick rack design and another possible contributing factors to low turning radius is cauze by the 6th gear... maybe because of this. from what i know.. max GTi6 peugeot have issues with turning radius too..

Why is it even a problem? Not like I ever had anyone honked me for making a 3 point turn.

:oft: my other car throttle got some issue and once in the blue moon the revs refuse to build when cold and i have to step and release a two or three times before it builds. meaning I tend to hold up the traffic a little at the lights near my house

but I have never been honked before despite that. seems I dun get honked much at all in a bella.
maybe the other driving's thinking: "ah, poor guy, I can hear his engine dying"

moral of the story. just do your 3 or 5 point turns la. no one honks an :italy:

Supercars power slide at u-turns and they're gone before you seeing them do the u-turn.

Proper sports car can't u-turn, just like F1 cars.

Yeah. Got used to bad u-turn. I just have to anticipate. Well, it's a sacrifice for quick turning ratio.
